What makes this coffee unique
What makes this coffee unique
Our Antigua Natural is a single-origin, natural-process coffee from Finca Capetillo farm in Antigua, Guatemala.
Natural-process coffees often have a fruity and complex flavor profile. Picked when ripe, the coffee cherries are spread on raised beds or patios to dry, which can take several weeks. Once dried, the outer layers (skin, pulp, and parchment) are removed to extract the green coffee beans. In ancient times, people processed all coffee using what we now call the natural process.
Natural-process coffees offer a unique sensory journey thanks to the flavor added when the cherry dries around the bean. Extended contact with the fruit's sugars often results in sweeter, more intense flavors reminiscent of berries, tropical fruits, and sometimes wine.
Beans from Antigua, known for their rich, chocolate-forward flavors, dried with the natural process, make our Antigua Natural a unique sensory experience and a must-try for any coffee enthusiast.
How we recommend to brew it
How we recommend to brew it
Our Antigua Natural coffee showcases its best qualities when prepared as a pour-over, french press, or drip brewer. For a rich, bright, and complex cup, try it in your espresso machine.
Before you start, be sure your coffee is fresh. For most coffees, 10-25 days from the roast date is the perfect window. This coffee is best at 15-20 days from our roast date, and you'll typically receive your coffee shipment from us within a few days after roasting, wherever you are located.
Grind the coffee to the size best suited for your chosen method. For more details, see our coffee grinding guide.
Use fresh, filtered water heated to 195°F-205°F. Too hot can scald the coffee; too cool may not extract all the flavor. To enjoy all this coffee has to offer, we suggest 200°F.
Pro Tips
- Magnesium-rich water helps extract coffee's more nuanced flavors. To learn more, see Scott Rao's excellent water guide.
- Weigh your coffee and water. For best flavor, maintain a 15:1 to 17:1 ratio of water to coffee (for example, 20 grams of coffee to 300 to 340 grams of water). With our Antigua Natural coffee, using a 16:1 to 17:1 ratio will help bring out the subtle fruit notes.
Sit back and enjoy the complexity and unique characteristics of your cup.
